One of Colorado’s most dangerous roads is about to get MUCH worse

US Highway 287 has an exceptionally high accident rate: Colorado Highway Patrol data reveals 60 deaths and hundreds of injury accidents on 287 between Longmont and Lafayette in just the last 5 years.

As part of its plan to build an industrial-scale waste facility on Open Space, Boulder County wants to add a very dangerous T-Intersection on 287 between Highway 52 and Lookout Road. The intersection would not have a traffic light or deceleration, acceleration or turn lanes to handle dozens of semi-trailer and large truck deliveries every single day. Trailer trucks carrying 80,000-lbs of compost would be executing left-turn exits across 4 lanes of +60-mph highway traffic. The consequences of this ill-conceived plan would be measured in human injury and lives lost.

Check back soon for more detailed analysis of the traffic impacts of the County’s Open Space development plan.

Dozens of heavy-trucks will enter and exit this facility via US-287 all day, every day. The consequences will be grave. Literally.
